HUMAN POPULATION PROJECT - GRADE 8 LA/SS

Student Instructions

Gather information and answer questions about the human population and its impact on environment for your assigned area. Three groups will research population conditions in one of the following pairs of countries:

  1. USA, Mexico (2) Italy, Kenya, (3) India, China

For your chosen countries research all of the following data. The web sites listed below will help you in your search:

Once you have gathered the statistical data use it, together with other information gathered from the web sites below or any other source, to answer the "Central Questions" below. Note that the questions require you to analyze, draw conclusions, and make predictions using the information and data you have gathered.


Central Questions

 

1. What particular challenges is this country facing as a result of its population growth and development?

2. What does the information you have gathered tell you about the quality of life for the humans in this place?
3. If the population trends continue, what will life be like for them in the future?
4. Has this population reached its carrying capacity? Support with evidence
5. How are the actions of the humans in this area effecting global population problems?
6. What should this population do to solve or prevent problems related to over population?

7. What fundamental differences did you find in population patterns, growth, and demographics between the two countries you studied?
