第１回　千里国際学園という学校

　みなさんこんにちは。

　千里国際学園はこの『月刊 INFOE』にシリーズ『世界は千里でひとつになる The World Comes Together in Senri』を連載します。この連載を通じて海外子女・帰国子女の皆さんに､少しでも千里国際学園のことを知っていただければと願っています｡

　さて今回はその第一回として、千里国際学園とはどんな学校として設立されたかというお話をします。

　千里国際学園が生まれたのは1991年4月､今から14年前です｡まだまだ歴史の浅い学園とも言えますが､でも、逆の言い方をすれば、生まれたての生き生きフレッシュ学園です｡

　「大阪府内にそれまでなかった帰国生徒の受け入れ専門校を作ろう｡」

　そのような大きな社会的要請の下に作り上げられた学校ですから､帰国生徒のための様々な特別の工夫が、千里国際学園のあらゆる部分に施されています。

　もし海外からの帰国が9月になったとしても心配ありません。千里国際学園では一年が春学期・秋学期・冬学期の三つの学期（各学期の長さは60日で、全部の学期が同じ長さです）に分かれていて、勉強はどの学期からでも新学期のようなスタートを切れるわけですから、授業が先に進んでいてわからない、といった不安や遅れを感じることなく勉強を始めることが出来るわけです。

　編入学は中等部１年生から高等部3年生の秋学期までどの学年でも可能です。海外からいつ帰国になるかなかなか分からない皆さんのために､広く編入学の機会を設けていますので､これも心配いりません。

　学期制・編入学の制度､このふたつをお話しただけでも、千里国際学園が、帰国生徒の受け入れのために設立された学校として、海外生徒のこと、帰国生徒のことを常に考えていることがわかっていただけると思います｡

　勿論、海外での入試も行います｡アメリカではLos AngelesとNew Yorkで毎年行っています｡

　千里国際学園は、関西在住の外国人家庭の子供たちが学ぶ「大阪インターナショナルスクール」と、同一キャンパスで､合同の教育を行っています｡キャンパスはまさに小さな国際社会｡世界30数ヵ国からの帰国生徒、30数ヵ国の国籍の外国人生徒､そして国内一般生徒｡千里国際学園と大阪インターナショナルスクールが正に一つになって生み出すインターナショナルな雰囲気。完璧な日英バイリンガル環境に学園は包まれています｡

Hello everyone.

This issue is the first of the series, "The World Comes Together in Senri," that Senri International School (SIS) will be contributing to the "Monthly INFOE" magazine. We hope that, through this issue, students living or returning from abroad will gain some insight into our school.

Let us begin with a little on what kind of a school SIS was intended to be.

SIS was established in April 1991, approximately 14 years ago. It is true that we do not have much to offer in terms of history; however, we can also claim that we are still youthful, fresh and crisp.

"Let's create the first school in Osaka that specializes in hosting returning students."

Such was the social commitment in our establishment, and consequently, our school reflects in many places our consideration for returning students.

Don't worry if your return is scheduled for September. At SIS, we operate on a trimester cycle (with the Spring, Fall, and Winter trimesters paced equally at 60 days each), and classes are planned so that you can feel comfortable jumping in at the beginning of any trimester. So, should you join us in September, you can still start afresh as if at the beginning of a new academic year, and not worry about being left behind in classes, etc.

You can transfer in at any time between 7th grade and the Fall semester of 12th grade. This is our attempt to leave the door wide open for those of you uncertain on when exactly your return to Japan will be.

These two concepts, trimester system and transfer policy, alone should give you some idea of how much we, as a school established for accepting returning students, try to provide for students living or returning from abroad.

Of course, we give entrance exams overseas as well. For example, in the US, we conduct exams annually in LA and NY.

SIS offers an education in collaboration with another school collocated on the same campus, Osaka International School (OIS), where children from foreign families residing in the Kansai region study. This essentially turns our campus into a "miniature international community," with returning and foreign students from over 30 nations of the world, as well as domestic students. The unification of SIS and OIS provides a perfectly English-Japanese bilingual and truly multi-national environment.
