BIOGRAPHY: David Dunn -Teacher, Director, Writer and Actor.
Metaphorically: Some years ago, in my mid twenties, while
climbing high in a tree, I slipped and fell, bumping my head
on the solid earth below. I came to and directly in front of
me; a door. I open it and stepped through into a very long
corridor that stretched on as far as I could see. I might
have turned back; fate dictating otherwise. The corridor
walls were lined with paintings, each a fascinating insight
into human nature and behaviour. I was disturbed, amused,
outraged, saddened, enlightened, humbled……..At times I
celebrated my humanity at others despaired for the lack of
it. I never turned back…I’m still walking the corridor,
there’s no end in sight………

1987-2006: Director of Student Theatre……… Wesley College,
Melbourne, AUSTRALIA:
Senior teacher of Theatre Studies: Victorian Certificate of
Education and Theatre Arts IB
Established Wesley Student Theatre International Performing
Tours Program. WST, over a period of 18 years, has performed
in Thailand, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, America, Canada,
England, Ireland, France and Germany.
1993: Host and co-ordinator of major two week long theatre
performance festival at Wesley: ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE with
participants from Adelaide, Indonesia, New Zealand, Japan,
Canada, and England.
Director of countless plays and musicals including:
Superstar, Oliver, Man of La Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof,
Joseph, Chess and Les Miserables:
Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Amadeus,
Marat/Sade, The Lark, Antigone, Medea.
Winner of numerous Most Outstanding school student theatre
awards .
1988-2006 Artistic Director…Nuworks Theatre Company.
1996 Nuworks production of Macbeth filmed by the ABC as part
of the Text File series……still shown twice a year on
Australian national television.
Writer of numerous plays and musicals for adults and
schools: Barricades and Barbed Wire ( see review ) Kelly,
Angels in the Orlop, The Last of the Outlaws, Moving Out……….
Producer and Director of numerous plays: Barricades and
Barbed Wire, The Stupid Club, Hamlet, Medea, A Child’s
Story, Heroes, The Hairy Ape.
Acting credits include: Duncan in Macbeth, Creon in Medea,
Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, John Brown in
Barricades and Barbed Wire, the father in The War Years.
2004 Nuworks tour to Japan, France and England performing
Theatre X, Medea and The Hairy Ape.
Winner of numerous Best Director and Most Outstanding
Production awards at Ararat, Ballarat and Maroondah
Festivals. |
