Osaka International School

Introduction to the OIS Middle/High School  Curriculum

Osaka International School (OIS) is one of over 1,550 authorized IB world schools in 117 different countries (Sept. 2004), and the first (and currently only) school in Japan to be authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes:  The Diploma Program (IB DP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The similarities in the IB philosophy to OIS's philosophy, combined with the advantages of having linked, internationally recognized programmes based on current research, led OIS towards implementing the PYP and MYP to supplement the Diploma Programme already being used.

From OIS's inception in 1981, it has proved itself a pioneer in implementing new ideas for the purpose of providing students the best education possible. From the continuing development of the unique "shared school" philosophy with Senri International School to the implementation of the IB PYP and MYP programs, OIS strives to address student learning outcomes based on the best educational practices known.

These web pages are designed to be of use to parents and students to explain OIS's programme, and how it relates to the IB MYP program (Grades 6-10). Please contact the office if you would like more information!

Osaka International School PHILOSOPHY

Students will develop a strong sense of self, an understanding of their culture and the cultures of others, and an appreciation of the diversity of the human experience. They will develop a realization of global interdependence, and will grow into receptive and creative adults with the capacity for intercultural communication.

Students will share responsibility in the educational process, discover their own talents and abilities, help to determine their own paths of study and growth, and proceed through the strengths of their own efforts.

Students will develop a respect for a healthy and purposeful life, rich in individuality, facing challenges with wisdom and perseverance. They will expand their international awareness and caring, and demonstrate leadership in the creation of a better future for humankind.
