Exactly thirty years ago, Annie
opened for the first time. Since then it had been a smash
hit on Broadway and in London. It has been made into movies
for the cinema and for television. And it has been produced
countless times by theatre groups all over the world. Even
before the stage show, it was a popular cartoon strip.
What makes Annie so successful?
There is something that we like in the story of a perky
little orphan capturing the heart of a very powerful
businessman. A reward for never giving in ? for always
staying positive. That is a lesson we can, and should, hear
over and over again. Of course, it is not just the story,
the songs stick with you.
Annie is set in New York during the
Great Depression, but its themes are universal. The
red-haired Orphan and the bald Warbucks are familiar figures
from the movie, however we decided to take our own
interpretation.
The set is simple. The characters are
built around the particular talents of our students. For
some, this is their first time on stage while others have a
lot of experience. They all have their part to play ? as do
the groups involved in lighting, backstage, design and music
? in giving you, the audience, an uplifting experience. Our
aim is to send you on your way with a smile on your face and
that song you just can’t get out of your head. Enjoy!
