This person had very little stuff so he used his room with space.

This is an example of a single room with a student who has a computer.
This person had many things, but moved the beds to one
side and cleared some space.

This is an example of a double room. 
It is the same size as the singles above, but the difference is two
students will use the rooms together.

Having either a single or double is not something that you can ask for.  This is something that is just given to you by luck.  For example you have a room mate, but he graduates and you lose your room mate and nobody new enters the dorm.
