Grade Nine Information and Design Technology

Interdisciplinary Website

Here's a message from Dr Shiffman to the students in his English class about your websites

Dear Grade 9 Students,

I would like to have you all work on ANTIGONE by Sophocles for your website work in IDT.

You should be currently reading this work, and we will be discussing it in class for the next month or so.

Here are just a few ideas that will help you in thinking about the sites that you will design:
  • You might create links to information about conventions of Greek drama (e.g., the role of the chorus, staging, use of masks) & to information/analyses/definitions of tragedy.

  • You could create annotated links to articles (e.g., through Questia) about the original Sophocles version and/or to the twentieth century version by Jean Anouilh, which we are reading.

  • You could include information about the German occupation of France and the Resistance (The Anouilh version is seen as an act of protest of the German occupation, one that slipped by the censors).   So, the web design should help to highlight the links between the play and the War..

  • You could make charts listing key attributes and lines spoken by the various characters.

I will likely have you do mini-presentations on some of these topics in class, so you can use your websites for that.

Regards

Dr Shiffman
