Line Spacing


Line spacing determines the amount of vertical space between lines of text within a paragraph. Microsoft Word uses single line spacing by default. The line spacing that is specified will affect all lines of text within a paragraph(s) following the insertion point.

1Under FORMAT select Paragraph.

2In the Paragraph window click on the Indents and Spacing tab.

Specify line spacing in the Line spacing drop down menu.

3Click on the Line spacing drop down menu to view and select line spacing options.

Single: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display line spacing for each line that accommodates the largest font point size on that line.

Single spacing:

 

 

1.5 Lines: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display line spacing for each line that is one-and-one-half times that of single line spacing. For example, if 10-point text is spaced at 1.5 lines, the line spacing is approximately 15 points.

Double: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display line spacing for each line that is twice that of single line spacing.

At Least: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display minimum line spacing that Word can adjust to accommodate larger font sizes or graphics that would not otherwise fit within the specified spacing.

At Least (12 pt):

 

Exactly: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display fixed line spacing that Word does not adjust. This option makes all lines evenly spaced.

Exactly (20 pt):

 

Multiple: The paragraph(s) will be formatted to display line spacing as increased or decreased by a specified percentage. Specify the line spacing by typing in a number in the At box, or using the drop down menu.
