Show/Hide Characters View


The Word document can be viewed in different ways. Use the VIEW menu, or the four Shortcut View buttons on the bottom left of the window to switch between views.

Show or hide nonprinting characters

1Tab characters, spaces, and carriage returns that don't appear on the printed page can be viewed on the screen for editing purposes.

Arrows represent tab characters

Dots between letters represent spaces.

A Word document in Show All Characters View:

2Under TOOLS menu, Select Options.

3In the Options window, select the View tab.

4Select the check boxes of the characters you want to display under Nonprinting Characters.

Check off the boxes next to characters to be displayed.

5Click OK.

Click on the Show-Hide shortcut button to turn all options on or off.
