Mathematics 6

Grade 6 math is the first year of a 2 year program published by Oxford University Press.  The topics covered will include computations with fractions, decimals, integers, and percentages, sequences, perimeter and area, statistics, probability, geometry, and basic algebra. The students will be evaluated using the MYP descriptors (see below), and an Attitude and Effort grade.

Mathematics 7

Grade 7 math is the second year of a two year program published by Oxford University Press. The seventh grade topics covered will be a continuation of the grade 6 topics with more emphasis on geometry and algebra. The students will be evaluated using the MYP descriptors (see below), and an Attitude and Effort grade.

Mathematics 8

Grade 8 Mathematics is the first year of a three-year integrated math program. The texts used show that mathematics is not a subject in isolation but has applications in many other areas. This course will cover topics in all the main mathematical areas. Some of the topics covered are trigonometry, equations and inequalities, algebraic operations, statistics and probability. In addition there will be mathematical activities and investigations which will help improve mathematical exploration, communication and reasoning.

Mathematics 9

Grade 9 Mathematics is the second year of an integrated mathematics program. It continues to develop an awareness of mathematics as a subject that is not in isolation but has many other applications. The class will follow a series of textbooks that build on previous work as well as bring in new concepts and topics from all areas of mathematics. The class will also have mathematical activities and investigations that continue to exercise and expand this developing area.

Mathematics 10

Grade 10 Mathematics will cover topics in all areas of mathematics - geometry, algebra, number and statistics. The text extends previous topics as well as introduces new topics such as optimization and iteration. This course will encourage an investigative and practical approach to mathematics through a series of teaching and learning styles. Additional topics will be chosen from a variety of areas, all deemed necessary to help prepare the students for the demanding mathematics courses in grades eleven and twelve.
